Software

One of the software solutions developed by ASI is KwiiC (Keyword Information In Context).  At ASI we use KwiiC to manage the voluminous data obtained from client attorneys through the litigation discovery process.  KwiiC gives us a powerful method to efficiently convert the data into useful information.  Some of the features of KwiiC include: 

• KwiiC permits the user to enter summary text for documents and other sources directly from the keyboard, or from any number of commonly available electronic media formats, including, but not limited to, scanning with optical character recognition (OCR) equipment, data stored in ASCII format or other text format files and data stored in word processor formats.
  
  
• KwiiC permits the user to define multiple key words or "Tags" on the basis of user-defined contextual significance that can be associated with each of the summaries to permit the user to classify the summaries by one or more key words or context "Tags".
  
  
• KwiiC permits the user to "Tag" data summaries with a specific date and time to provide an analysis capability for chronology-sensitive data.
  
  
• KwiiC permits the user to define bookmark "Tags" to facilitate the user’s rapid locating of vital information using terms that are meaningful to the user.
  
  
• KwiiC permits the user to associate user-composed annotations ("Notes") to each data summary to further assist in the information analysis/management process.
  
  
• Once the user has entered all the document titles or other source titles and has entered all the summaries associated with the document or other source titles and has associated all the necessary Tags and annotations with the summaries, the program can then be used to provide the user with output in at least the following forms:
  

1. The user can use KwiiC to interface with a word processor such as Microsoft Word® or Corel WordPerfect® to directly insert information from the KwiiC database into a word processor document. The inserted text will be inserted with its associated citation in the form of a footnote, endnote or delimited text. KwiiC utilizes OLE automation to accomplish this interface.
   
   
2. The user can use KwiiC to print formatted reports directly into a selected word processor such as Microsoft Word® or Corel WordPerfect®. KwiiC utilizes OLE automation to accomplish this interface.
   
   
3. The user can accomplish the foregoing output features with the entire database, or with selected, filtered records on the basis of:

a.   Context Tags.

b.   Chronology Tags.

d.   Data Strings.

e.   Document Title.

f.   Any combination of the above.

You will download a self-extracting zip file called "KwiiCLT.ext".  Simply save this file to a convenient directory and then locate the file using either "Windows Explorer" or "My Computer".  Double click on the file and follow the instructions to UNZIP the file.  Once you have unzipped the file, you will see a file called "Setup.exe".  Again using "Windows Explorer" or "My Computer", simply double click on this file and follow the setup instructions.
